Kate Hood is in her second season as assistant women's lacrosse coach at Regis University following a two year-stint as head field hockey and women's lacrosse coach at Simmons College, a Division III school in Boston, Mass. Hood led Simmons Lacrosse, a program that she started, to a 6-6 record on the lacrosse field in 2010. Hood coached nine lacrosse all-conference athletes and two field hockey all-conference athletes in her two years at Simmons. Hood recently helped Regis to their finest season in program history with a 12-2 overall record including a Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (WILA) championship and 12 all-conference athlete recognitions.
Hood, previously Leonard, is a 2003 graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., where she majored in psychology. She was a second team all-conference and an IWLCA all-region lacrosse performer her senior season, leading the team to an NCAA Division III tournament berth. Her team was the 2000 NCAA Championship runner-up and 2001 ECAC Champion team. Hood scored 31 goals and added nine assists, tying for the team lead in goals her senior campaign. At Williams, Hood was a member of the Williams College field hockey team which qualified for the NCAA tournament every year she played; in her senior year, she earned the Christine Larson Mason award, given to the athlete best representing teamwork, hardwork, dedication, and skill. Hood was also a two-time captain of the Division I alpine ski team. She qualified for the NCAA Championships in skiing, was an NCAA Division I Academic All-American, and earned the Alumnae Ski Award, which recognizes the female athlete best representing the spirit of Williams skiing. Hood also won the 25th Anniversery of Women in Sports Award, the award given each year to the senior female athlete who most represents a love of athletics at Williams.
Hood earned her MA in Education from Tufts University and is currently working toward her PsyD. in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of the Rockies. She lives in Golden, Colorado with her husband Alex, daughter Eloise, and mutt Bruschi. She grew up in Maine and New Hampshire where lacrosse had barely started by the time she got to eighth grade! Hood is US Lacrosse Level II certified and runs camps and clinics through her business Lacrosse Camps LLC.
Denver Summit Lacrosse was founded by the University of Denver Women’s Lacrosse coaching staff: Head Coach Liza Kelly and Assistant Coach Rachel Shuck. Combined, these women have experience with top Division I programs, NCAA tournaments, NCAA Championships, and US National Teams.
Additional Denver Summit coaches will include current and former Division I and III players from several elite institutions across the country, as well as current University of Denver players. From this depth of experience, our staff can provide prospective college players with insight into the many facets of the college process, from recruiting through the daily life of a student-athlete.
